Counter space is often limited in most clinical settings, and there are frequently more devices than available space to place them. Unfortunately, solutions to this problem tend to be unsatisfactory. Counters can simply be crowded with equipment, but this makes work more difficult, especially if a device is used infrequently. Devices can be transported back and forth from storage, but this carries a risk of drops that can destroy costly equipment and injure the user. Even once they are on a counter or table, ophthalmic instruments are often not at the correct height for the task, requiring both the patient and the operator to adapt to the equipment.
